Overheard in Arizona:

Matthew James and Nancy Salmon

"My son is by far one of the most important people in my life. I love him more than I can say. I don't believe that his gayness is a lifestyle he chose. But the little cocksucker does not deserve the right to marry his limp-wristed boyfriend."

Rep. Matthew James Salmon (R-Arizona).

Matthew Rae and Kent

It will be a great Thanksgiving dinner at the Salmon house. In 2006, Mom Nancy Salmon led the Arizona chapter of the group United Families International effort to ban gay marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in the Arizona state constitution. Son Matthew Rae Salmon, who leads the Arizona Log Cabin Republicans  pro-gay rights GOP group, dates Kent Flake, the second cousin of Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who also opposes same-sex marriage. The Flake and Salmon families are conservative Mormons. Last week, Sen. Robert Portman (R-OH) announced his support for same-sex marriage in March, citing his gay son as the reason he came around on the issue.
