Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R), commenting on an announcement that Jonnie R. Williams Sr., chief executive of Star Scientific, has turned over personal financial records and provided firsthand accounts of luxury gifts and more than $120,000 given to McDonnell and his family members since 2011. McDonnell has said anything that was improperly acceptable was the fault of his wife.

“Yes, I billed Virginia taxpayers for dog vitamins, sun screen, deodorant, shoe repairs and a digestive ‘detox cleanse.' I also billed them for this suit, this tie and ALL of this wonderful dental work. With my skills, they are getting a bargain. And yes, my adult children visit the governor’s residence all the time and raid the liquor cabinet and food pantry. But all kids do that kind of stuff, don’t they? What's the crime? At least I didn’t have one of my campaign donors pick up a $15,000 catering bill for my daughter’s wedding. Oh they caught me on that too? Shit. Wow. These FBI guys are pretty good, aren’t they? Either that or I am one dumb motherfucker.”
