Overheard in Washington, D.C.:

Mitch McConnell

“Awww….. the little kids in Ohio, Missouri, Alabama, New York and other places won’t be able to attend their Head Start program because of the sequestration cuts. Well that’s just terrible. And there will be 65,000 fewer Head Start openings and 11,500 fewer Head Start staff members as well. Poor little poor children. Christ, I'm laughing so hard, I can barely breathe!“

Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), whose personal fortune is estimated at $50 million.

John Boehner

“Awww... the poor kids. Well, doesn’t that just blow the shit out of our theory that there would be no discernible impact on government programs as a result of the sequestration? How the fuck did that happen? How could we be wrong like that.”

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio), whose personal fortune is estimated at between $1.7 and $5.5 million.

“We weren’t wrong. Somehow, President Obama is making this
happen just so we look bad. Well, fuck him. Here’s what we’ll do. Get me a list of all the kids who can’t go to Headstart now, and all the employees who are now going to be collecting unemployment benefits (and maybe food stamp benefits as well) and I’ll personally send each one of them a cookie and an autographed photo. That should make up for it.”

Sen. McConnell
