would be irresponsible for us to allow President Obama to just keep running up
the credit card without securing spending cuts first. We need to start clipping

Rafael ‘Ted’ Cruz Jr. (R-Texas), commenting on the upcoming vote on
raising the debt ceiling. The ceiling does not authorize new debt; it only
allows the government to continuing making payments on bills the government has
already authorized. Last fall, Cruz led a Republican House-directed shutdown of
the federal government over the debt ceiling, though he has contended he had
nothing to do with it and it was all President Barack Obama’s fault.
