Overheard in a History Book:

Carleton Ellis

"Don't  be too impressed by the fact I invented margarine, polyester, anti-knock gasoline, paint and varnish remover, among many other things. The truth is I used the same four basic ingredients in all of them. AND NO ONE DIED! Chemistry, as is life, is a game of proportions."

Carleton Ellis, who died from pneumonia at age 64 while vacationing in Miami. At the time of his death, he held some 753 patents.
