Meriwether Lewis |
"I really wasn't much of an explorer, no matter what
the history books say. I was just someone who tried to go places and kept
getting miserably lost. And with no gas stations or convenience stores, where in the hell was I going
to get directions? I couldn't very well go to AAA and pick up a map, either. So I'd have to find my way back home again. I was lucky, really."
Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809), known chiefly for his role as
leader of the Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-1806)
