Overheard in Washington, D.C.:

President Obama

"Yes, I promised the sequestration would not happen. Unfortunately, I was counting on BOTH houses of Congress getting off their asses and not just pointing fingers at each other or me. It's kind of ridiculous: I could tell John Boehner and Mitch McConnell we needed to pass legislation allowing people to breathe oxygen and they would do everything they possibly could to fight it or torpedo it. I'm beginning to think it is because I'm half-white. I don't believe any of this would be happening if I was 100% African-American."

President Barack Obama (D), 44th president of the United States, whose personal fortune is estimated at between $2.5 and $8.3 million

Mitch McConnell

"Well, the American people know that's just preposterous and a complete distortion of the reality, which is I don't like him because he doesn't agree with me. I wouldn't like him any more if he was 100 African-American and it would be impossible for me to like him any less."

Mitch McConnell, senior senator from Kentucky, Minority Leader of the Senate, who is known to smile only when draining the life force from young children and the elderlypreferably both at the same time. His personal fortune is estimated at $50 million.
John Boehner

"That is definitely preposterous. I don't like him because ... well ... just because, dammit."

John Boehner, Speaker of the House of Representatives, whose personal fortune is estimated at between $1.7 and $5.5 million.
